Update Your Bathroom On A Budget

by Perry Chapman

Whether you're planning to sell your home or you just want to update the look of your bathroom, it's one of the most important rooms in the entire house. A complete bathroom remodel can cost thousands of dollars, but there are many things you can do to enhance the look of your bathroom without breaking the bank. Here are some ideas that will improve  your bathroom's look and feel without costing a lot of cash.

Give It A Fresh Coat

A new coat of paint can make any room look better, and the bathroom is no exception. Since most bathrooms are smaller than the other rooms in your home, you should be able to re-paint it with only one or two gallons. Choose a pleasing, neutral color that looks updated and will make the room seem bigger. Colors like grey and purple are very popular in modern bathrooms, and can make the entire room look new. Be sure to choose a semi-gloss paint that will be able to handle water and heavy use. While you're at it, now is a good time to paint a fresh coat on the ceiling as well.

Replace Old Fixtures

You don't have to replace the entire vanity, tub, and shower to make your bathroom look updated. Simply purchase new fixtures and install them to give the room a fresh look. Replace those old brass faucet handles with brushed nickel or rubbed bronze to improve the feel of the room. When you replace the fixtures, make sure you purchase all of the same style for the shower, tub, and sink so everything looks congruent. You should also be sure that the fixtures you select will fit your existing plumbing before you install them.

Freshen Up

A few small changes can really improve your bathroom's look. Add new grout to existing tile to make it new and white again, and re-caulk seals around the tub and shower. New caulk and grout will help protect your floors from damage and you will definitely notice the difference in terms of appearance. Buy a new shower curtain and matching towels for the bathroom for a quick, easy, and inexpensive update. If you have a shelf above the toilet, replace it with an updated one for a quick improvement. Small changes can really add up, and they don't have to cost a fortune to make your bathroom look clean and updated.
